Sun, 09:29   Tabor / Hansen back
car 232, Mark Tabor / Kathryn Hansen had to retire yesterday and after some trouble shooting determined that they had a bad fuel pump. So after replacing it they are back ready to race today.   Mike G.

Sun, 09:24   Greer not starting today
car 297, Steve Greer / Kelly Greer will not be starting today. It seems Steve has a recurring shoulder rotator cuff injury that has been bothering him, especially due to the tight stages yesterday.   Mike G.

Sun, 08:50   Stage 8 Dropped
Stage 8 (Grimes Pass South 1) uses the same section of stage road where the fire was yesterday on stage 2. The fire dept has observed some smoldering spots this morning and is dealing with that, so the stage will be transited. The same stage is scheduled to be run this afternoon as stage 11. There is no word at this time as to whether we will be able to run it as stage 11. We will have to wait and see about that.   Mike G.

Sat, 18:37   Derek Thomas UTV out again?
The UTV of Derek Thomas/Shawn Radimak has pulled off to the side about halfway through stage 6, with the okay sign out. The team skipped stages 2 and 3 and were hoping to at least finish stage 6 today. UPDATE: the Sweeps are needing to extricate the UTV as it went off the road.   Paula G.

Sat, 17:59   Sarah DNFs today
Local favorite Sarah Helmick & Rebekah Sapp have DNFed today. It turns out the timing belt skipped a tooth and when trying to fix it the pulley came off. When last seen they were trying to fabricate a Woodruff key.   Mike G.

Sat, 17:48   Car 210 hopes to restart tomorrow
Sarah Helmick and Rebekah Sapp's Honda Civic jumped a tooth on their timing belt so will not finish today. They hope to restart tomorrow.   Paula G.

Sat, 17:24   Car 443 off with "OK"
The Impreza of Jason Powers and Jennifer Taylor is on the side of the road with their OK sign out. No details yet on why. UPDATE: the team actually went off down an embankment and will need to be tugged out by Sweep.   Paula G.

Sat, 17:04   Day 1 Leaders
After starting today second on the road (a tough position to be in with the dust) Patrik Sandell has a scant 8.2 sec lead over fellow team Subaru driver David Higgins. So this may be a real horse race tomorrow for the overall win (as well as the O4wd class). In the L4wd class car 56, Jeff Seehorn & Karen Jankowski have built a healthy 2:29 lead over car 457, Sam Albert & Michelle Miller. In the UTV class car 180, Brandon Semenuk & John Hall have a massive lead over car 314, Carl Marcum & Bryant Adams. On the 2 wheel drive side car 25, Seamus Burke & Martin Brady have 42 sec lead over car 42, Jason Bailey & Chris Kremer   Mike G.

Sat, 17:00   Car 232 to continue?
The word from service is that Mark Tabor and Kathryn Hansen are working on their WRX STI and hoping to make it to Harris Creek West and run at the back of the pack. They had to skip stage three. UPDATE: they have given up on finishing today as they can't figure out what's wrong with the car. They are still hoping to run tomorrow.   Paula G.

Sat, 16:31   Derek Thomas UTV out again?
The UTV of Derek Thomas/Shawn Radimak has pulled off to the side about halfway through stage 6, with the okay sign out. The team skipped stages 2 and 3 and were hoping to at least finish stage 6 today. UPDATE: the Sweeps are needing to extricate the UTV as it went off the road.   Paula G.

It has been reported that car 937, Ryan Bouffioux / Steve Winnat is high centered on the burm on the outside of a corner on stage 3. We will have to wait and see if someone pulls them off so they can continue.   Mike G.

Sat, 14:30   Thomas / Sinclair stopped then going
It has been reported that car 611, Kel Thomas / Kaden Sinclair was stopped on stage 3 with the OK sign out, looking like a mechanical problem. Shortly there after the ham net reported that he was moving again. Yea! UPDATE: We now know that they had extreme brake fade and had to stop and let the brakes cool down.   Mike G.

Sat, 13:46   Tabor / Hansen stopped on stage
It has been reported that car 232, Mark Tabor / Kathryn Hansen is stopped on stage 3 with the OK sign displayed and appear to be having cooling issues.   Mike G.

Sat, 13:04   Reroute
Due to the incident on stage 2 and other delays the organizers have decided to drop stages 4 and 5 and send the cars directly to stage 6 after service (which has been extended).   Mike G.

Sat, 13:02   Sandell takes the lead
After stage wins on stages 2 and 3 car 18, Patrik Sandell / Per Almqvist have pulled into the lead and now hold a 12 sec advantage over car 75, David Higgins / Craig Drew. This is particularly impressive since they are running second on the road and there is lots of dust to contend with. UPDATE: We just found out that the gap between cars was extended by 2 minutes for stage 3 so that should have leveled the playing field between Sandell and Higgins.   Mike G.

Sat, 12:11   Transit of stage 2 Complete
All of the remaining cars have completed transiting stage 2. The only 2 cars that did not complete the stage we car 824, Cameron Steely / Preston Osborn (previously reported off & OK) and car 124, Derek Thomas / Shawn Radimak. We have no word at this point as to why Thomas / Radimak did not complete the stage.   Mike G.

Sat, 11:38   Stage 2 Stopped
Stage 2 (Grimes Pass North) was stopped due to a brush fire on the stage. The fire department responded to the fire and put it out. The remaining cars are now transiting Stage 2 and then will head on to Stage 3. The 6 cars that completed stage 2 are being held at the start of stage 3 so the pack can be regrouped there. All of the cars that were impacted by the incident received the slowest representative time of the cars that completed the stage.   Mike G.

Sat, 10:45   Steely / Osborn Off
It has been reported that car 824, Cameron Steely / Preston Osborn is off the road on stage 2, with the OK sign displayed. No other details at this time.   Mike G.

Sat, 08:37   Higgins draws first blood
Higgins / Drew were 8 seconds faster than Sandell / Almqvist on the first stage. Sandell said the conditions were very tricky due to the dust.   Mike G.

Sat, 08:20   Stage 1 hot
Stage 1 is about to go hot. This is about 20 minutes late, but that is not unusual for the first stage of the day. It is always hard to get everyone in place for that first stage.   Mike G.

Sat, 07:00   Weather Report
Today is expected to be clear and sunny with a high in the 70s, however at this hour the temperature is in the mid 40s, which could be a bit cool for the SxS competitors. There hasn't been any rain for a long time so the roads are expected to be dusty. As a result the whole rally will run with a 2 min gap between the cars to try to level the playing field.   Mike G.

Sat, 06:53   Getting ready to start
The 2018 Idaho Rally is getting ready to start in just over an hour. There are 42 cars and UTVs that passed tech inspection and are getting ready to start. Harris Creek East (uphill) is the first stage of the day and is scheduled to start at 8:58 AM. At the seeded draw David Higgins drew the first pick and selected first car position on the road, a good decision given the anticipated dusty conditions. Patrik Sandell will be second on the road followed by Jeff Seehorn.   Mike G.
